The 45th Sports Day and Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of St. Xavier's H.S.S, Mapusa was held on the 7th of December 2019 at 2:45pm on St. Xavier's H.S.S ground. It began with the ceremonial welcome followed by the hoisting of the flag. The Drill and the March Past of 21 contingents promoted and highlighted the theme "X-Athon 2019" Fitness - A Step Towards Wellness. The Chief Guest for the Sports day was Mr. Michael Lobo, Honourable Minister for Ports, DRDA, Science & Technology and Waste Management and Rev. Fr. Canon Lucio Dias, Episcopal Vicar South Goa, accompanying the Apostolate of Education was our guest of honour. We were also privileged to have special invitees from Sisters Adorers Children's Home, Tivim. The achievements of our students in academics as well as sports have raised the banner of St. Xavier's Higher Secondary School higher than ever. To honour these students, prizes were awarded to them for their excellence. It is a customary that every student be a part of this event. It was ensured that all 1700 students of this institution, the largest institute in Goa had an opportunity to display their extra curricular and co- curricular talents in the form of creative drills and march past . The Chief Guest Mr. Michael Lobo urged the students to dream big in the field of education. He reminded them that they were in the right fertile soil which will enable them towards their growth. He wished them success in their endeavours and appealed to them to attain their goals by being instrument of change. He also released our annual School Magazine “ Xaura 2019”.
The guest of honour, Rev Fr. Canon Lucio Dias said that education clubbed with sports draws more attention and stimulates the physical and mental growth of an individual. In his speech he urged the students to work with collaboration and co-operation with one another so that they will achieve excellence in education. Our Sports Day was witnessed by over 5000 people including parents, well wishers and benefactors. The curtain raiser focused on fitness - a way to help, relax our own mind and eliminate stress. The unveiling of ‘Xion’ Mascot of the day was the highlight of the event. Sports event comprises of athletics event, drills, aerobics etc. The drills performed by our students were ‘Positive Vibes’ - Yoga A complete Fitness Regime. The next drill ‘Dragon Warriors’ displayed forms of martial art. This was followed by ‘Slimnastics’ – Chair & Beach Ball Drill finally the ‘Xoom with Zumba Drill’ - A Dance Fitness Program captivated the attention of the gathering. Our Sports Day also included events like Relay, Tug of War, Sprint running events for boys and girls enhancing the sportive spirit in our students. A special relay for the member schools of Mapusa II Super School Complex was organised . In Sports, Mast. Anand Tendulkar from XII Commerce B and Ms. Veena Naik of XII Voc A&A were adjudged as Best Sportsman and Sportswoman respectively, for their outstanding performance in sports. An added attraction was the crowning of Master and Miss. Xavier’s, Mast. Keenan Pereira and Miss. Chloe Fernandes won the same respectively. The function ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Brian Duarte, Vice -Principal of the Vocational Stream of St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School.
