The Annual Day cum Prize Distribution Ceremony of St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa was organised on 15 December, 2018 at Peddem Indoor Stadium Complex, Peddem, Mapusa at 3.00 p.m. Mr. Michael Lobo, Dy. Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly was the Chief Guest for the occasion and Mr. Nagraj Honnekeri, the Director of S.C.E.R.T, Goa the Guest of Honour. The children from Asro Caritas, Thivim were the Special Invitees for the evening. At the outset the formal function began by evoking the blessings of the Almighty. The function began with an opening act viz., Circles of Joy, Peace and Hope by the students. The Manager of the Institution, Rev.Fr. Arnaldo Pinho, welcomed the gathering and thanked the parents and well-wishers for infusing life into the function through their familial presence. The Principal, Dr. Elvis N. B. Gonsalves, read the Annual Report and informed the parents about the outstanding performance of the students not only at the H.S.S. C. Examination, 2018 but also spoke about the exemplary performance of the students in sports having won the State Sports Award for the 11th consecutive year.
The function also saw felicitation of meritorious students and distribution of the BMX Scholarships at the hands of the Chief Guest and Guest of honour respectively. In their address, the Chief Guest, Mr. Michael Lobo, urged the parents to let their children live their own dreams and not that of their parents. He also reminded students to be optimistic in life and called upon to be hopeful and excel in academics as education is the key to prosperity. Mr. Nagaraj Honnekeri shared 5-points to excel in life, where he reminded students to be goal- oriented, to identify ones strengths, to show moral integrity, and urged them to channelize their services towards the nation. The Annual School magazine titled, ‘X aura’ was released at the occasion. The Annual Day saw an array of dance performances like the ballroom dance, folk dances, western fusion and retro- robotics dance that enthralled the audience. The orchestras, acapella, medleys of songs in duets and trios were performed by the musically talented students. Likewise, a musical play, “Shades of Life” depicted the cycle of human life. The students did not fail to mesmerizing the audience by displaying splendid pyramidal formations and acrobatics skills. The highlight of the evening was the crowing of Mr.& Ms. Xavier’s 2018, where Ms. Maria Dancho, the G.S. of the School was crowned Ms. Xavier’s where as Mr. Calvin D’Mello was crowned Mr. Xavier’s. The evening culminated with a dance performance by all 1600 students. Ms. Magret Dias, the Vice-principal of the General Stream proposed the vote of thanks.
